Many new university students are confused between medicine and dentistry in choosing their university orientations, due to the conflicting opinions about the preference of one over the other, and in this article we will highlight the two specialties and the pros and cons of each discipline with similarities between them and finally which is the best dentistry or general medicine?
First: General Medicine
It is the specialty of human medicine in which all the organs of the body are studied without exception and is a field that is inclusive of all medical sciences graduated in 7 years with a Ph.D. in human medicine to have the option of either completing a major or going to work in a hospital as a general practitioner
Second: Dentistry
It is a branch of general medicine in which you will study all the components of the mouth and teeth and specializes in studying the effect of different factors on teeth and such as the treatment of tussing and the removal of drugs and other, which allows you dentistry
This was a brief overview of my dental and general medicine specialties.
Duration of study
You will study general medicine for 7 years to graduate with a Ph.D. in human medicine that will allow you to work in public and private hospitals or open a clinic and work as a general practitioner in public health.
In dentistry you will only study 6 years, i.e. less than general medicine by one year and graduate as a doctor of general dentistry and you can work in private hospitals or open a personal clinic, which is the direction that most dental graduates go to.
Comparison between general medicine and dentistry
Difficulty studying
In fact there is no difficult specialty on the other, dentistry is characterized by a lot of appointments and lessons and a lot of practical work, which is a discipline that is more theoretical than applied.
In general medicine, lessons are difficult, but they are not dense, and anyone can study them and collect them with time-only regulation, which is a more theoretical discipline than the applied aspect.
Job opportunities after graduation
Job opportunities in general medicine are much more than in dentistry, which is agreed, but general medicine does not earn a significant income compared to dentistry.
Where private clinics make more money and profits, the specialist often earns
Difficulty working
The difficulty of practicing medicine lies in the many night shifts, especially for the female element, which is the opposite of what happens in dentistry, where there are no shifts.
But on the other hand, the general practitioner's work is comfortable and not tiring compared to the dentist.
Monthly salary
The general practitioner's salary is much better than that of a dentist, but as mentioned above, commercially, after opening a clinic, the dentist's income is higher than that of the general practitioner.
Which is the best dentistry or general medicine
And that's the most important thing. In fact, they are two very wonderful specialties and I as a dentist advise you dentist and the general practitioner advises you general medicine because there is no difference every specialty if you love it and master it will definitely succeed in it
